§10.1 Explanation & method

Where the content of this learning environment comes from, how it was compiled and how to read it.

Open §10.1 in the academy

This learning environment is an educational summary of open NATO and US doctrine. This chapter accounts for the publications used (§ 10.2 and § 10.3) and the standard works that form the reference framework (§ 10.4).

ItemExplanation
PurposeTo account for the open doctrine and literature the material rests on.
Two layersUsed (I numbers): publications the material itself names as primary references (§ 3.3 and § 8.3). Reference framework (R numbers): standard works the material aligns with, for example on analytical biases and estimative language, but which are not cited in the text.
MethodThe material summarises open doctrine and makes it accessible for teaching. Terminology follows the established term IPB; current US doctrine speaks of IPOE (see § 3.3). Cards and diagrams are own simplifications.
Case studyThe A2/AD case in chapter 9 is fictional. It is inspired by open-source descriptions of Kaliningrad and the Suwałki corridor (I10); all values are invented for teaching. For real IADS and SAM data: see the Airdefense Academy register (I11).
ReliabilityDoctrine is revised; version numbers and titles in this register reflect mid-2026. The checked currency note in § 3.3 (IPB → IPOE) was verified against ATP 2-01.3 Change 2, FM 2-0 and JP 2-0.
Note

Doctrine titles and versions change. This learning environment is a training aid; for operational use always consult the latest authorised publication.
